THE HEART OF THE MASTER

“We serve a God who can use an egg to break a stone, can use a basket to disgrace a bucket”

These were the words of a preacher last Sunday.

He is the God who turned the rod of Moses to a snake that swallowed the Magicians’ snakes. The God who parted the Red Sea!The God who can raise up stones to praise Him!!

“Lift up your heads O you gates! And be lifted up you everlasting doors! And the king of glory shall come in.Who is the King of Glory?…The Lord Strong and Mighty, the Lord Mighty in battle” (Ps 24:78)

If for nothing else, God deserves our worship for who He is!…His Majesty, the Ancient of Days,God of Justice… The Heavens declare His goodness!!… I would go on and on and on.

David is a wonderful example when it comes to the worship and reverence of God.How he danced also testifies of how great he esteemed God.In the midst of trouble he always found a way of glorifying His God.

Psalms 31 from verse 9 David laments through to verse 14 where He ‘rubber stamps’ his trust in the Lord because He is God.Is this not worth emulating?…That even in the midst of quagmire,He is still God!

In our lowest of lows it is almost always hard to pray let alone worship God.The Bible itself appears foreign and heavy!…These are the moments we should lift our eyes to the Father of lights and worship Him in our pain and anguish. These are the moments of your most profound and intimate experiences.

Look around you!…The birds sing of His goodness, the trees sway to His majestic power, the grass and the flowers shine with His glory!…As basic as this seems,we should be brought to our knees just by observing nature! This is reiterated by Nathaniel Bassey when he sings, “Everywhere I go,I see you right there,in the beauty of nature you shine all around, you are everything, everything is you, precious Jesus…WONDERFUL WONDER”

Oh Wonderful Wonder you are!…How beautiful!

See what David says in Psalms 8:3,4:

“When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him,the son of man that you care for him?”

With the heavens, stars, moon in place…I need not worry because He is majestic in all the earth!

You have every reason to worship this God! The fact that you can move from one point to another…In hospital, yes… But not pronounced dead, blind or lame, yes…but you have life!…Worship Him.

Consider the gift of salvation:

Romans 5:8 says, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!…Oh what manner of love the Father has for humanity!

One of my favourite bands sings, “There is no border in your love,no division in your heart,no taking back the cross, no regret in what it cost. There is no hiding from your face,no striving in your grace”… Halleluyah!

Did you know that He knows the number of hair on your head?…Glorious God He is!

Lay everything at His feet and worship Him,not for what He has done but for who He is!…Forget about your troubles, your cares or worries and just marvel at His glorious face! Stand in awe of His Power!

What draws us closer to our Master is our worship of Him.Our laying down our lives for eternity’s sake, our opening up our hearts for Him to fill it,our bending knees…Lay down your degrees, your profession, your dignity.Give yourself to Him.

Worship is at the heart of the Master,at the very core!

As I usually do,allow me to conclude with the words of three seasoned worshipers of God,

” We are called to be worshippers first and workers second. We take a convert and immediately make a worker out of him.God never meant it to be so.God meant that a convert should learn to be a worshiper and after that he can learn to be a worker… The work done by a worshiper will have eternity in it”  A.W Tozer

“I believe that in public worship we should do well to be bound by no human rules and constrained by no stereotyped order”                                         C.S Lewis

Strong affections for God,rooted in and shaped by the truth of Scripture-this is the bone and marrow of biblical worship”                                                           John Piper

Praise the Lord forever!
