“When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot thou hast taught me to say,it is well, it is well with my soul…Haste the day when the faith shall be sight, the clouds rolled back as a scroll, the Trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend, even so it is well with my soul“…timeless.

Picture these:

  • A sportsman/woman running a race…starts out so well but just towards the finish line his or her energy steadily spirals downward…
  • Your friend joyfully promises a piece of cake(quite literally). He or she does stretch out his/her hand to give it to you and when you reach out for the cake,he or she withdraws it and eats it right before your eyes!…
  • That deal you were about to strike, a million dollar deal.Final negotiations here and there and suddenly, the deal goes down South and is cancelled…

How can you explain such events?…Is it easy to say it is well?…Many have fallen into depression as a result of the sudden turn of events, some have gone to extents of committing suicide or literally lost their mind and then we are told that in all these horrible situations we should boldly say,it is well with my soul…

Jolly,Kind and Indomitable are the words I use to describe Janet Kanini Ikua. One who managed to cry and smile at the same time, one who lit the world around her despite her seemingly gross darkness.

I mean, she had it!…God gave her a second chance at life.He answered her prayers as well as of those who stood by her.Interview after interview, her words were like flower buds that blossomed and bloomed in the hearts of many. Her smile announced hope and fostered optimism. She had big plans and dreams after her brush with death. She always said, her perspective about life changed completely…Instead of going to an Island somewhere to celebrate her victory over cancer, eat, drink and make merry, she chose to minister to those who lost all hope to cancer.

Bigger than life she was,but God was much bigger and had greater plans for her.She passed on on the 1st of April 2017.On April fools’ day!Lol!!!…Did God just ‘fool’ us on April fool’s day?!…I don’t believe He did because…

“God’s plans are the best and He does what is best for you,” Janet Kanini Ikua

I remember burying my head between my hands for five minutes when I heard the news.I didn’t understand what happened right there but what kept drumming in my head was God’s sovereignty…Maybe He saved her from a situation much worse, because He sees the end from the beginning…or maybe she had run the race even as she pressed on towards the mark and it was time for her to leave.

Philippians 2:3-4 says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others

The Message Version writes,“Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand”…

Been undertaking a certain Leadership Training and one of the assignements we were given was to write our eulogies…creepy right?…If you can do it,please do because it instantly brought to mind a suppressed thought. The thought of being dead and buried!…Do you want to be celebrated in life alone?…I want to be celebrated in life as well as in death.

Gods’ plans are the best and He does what is best for you.

The streets, buildings and roads might have your name engraved, but what of the hearts of men?…Would we follow our perfect example, Jesus, who went about doing good…He was people-minded.

Tony Robbins once said,“Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life’s deepest joy;true fulfillment” and Andy Stanley, one of my favourite speakers echoes this when he says,“selfless, generous, compassionate living is unassailable”

Janet Kanini Ikua(Jolly,Kind and Indomitable)…

Rest In Peace Janet Kanini Ikua

…impacted my life, strengthened my faith and inspired my desire to make a difference in all I do…You shall be missed!

I conclude with the words of Kari Jobe,my favourite international gospel artist.

“For this cause I live, for this cause I’d die,I surrender all for the cause of Christ. All I once held dear,I will leave behind, for my joy is this… Oh the cause of Christ”
