…we are the clay,you are the potter(Isaiah 64:8)
Out of a pile of soil, beauty erupts through the hands of the Potter. Behind this beauty lies the processes of pinching,firing/heating and glazing. To mature the clay,it has to be heated, to shape it,it has to be pinched and to make it impervious, it has to be glazed. All these processes are extremely uncomfortable but see the end product… Beautiful to behold!
More often than not, when we go through tough times, we forget that God is the Potter and we are the clay. Sometimes,it becomes overwhelming to an extent of questioning God and carrying in our hearts unbearable bitterness towards Him.Sometimes,we completely go astray and choose to abandon the faith, but wait…
“Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker-an earthenware vessel among the vessels of earth! Will the clay say to the Potter, “What are you doing?” or the thing you are making say, “He has no hands?” (Isaiah 45:9)
In His hands, we are but clay, whatever the situation you are or might be going through,is to make you beautiful.Sounds crazy right?…What is God trying to relay in your difficulty?…
Talk about transitions. There is nothing as intimidating and as scary as transitions.Just when you thought you have got it all under control…Voila!!!!…Happened to me severally…not comfortable but at the end of the day,the beauty is irresistible.
One chilly morning,on the 25th of September 2016,I sat on the last row in a church service I happened to attend and during that period, I was undergoing a huge transition in my career life,I mean,it was crazy! One thing stood out for me during the service…
“God knows how to get you where He wants you to be because,He does not waste experiences.”
This ministered to me and I drew strength from then onwards to face what lies ahead.
God does not waste experiences.
Let’s look at a wonderful example of the Potter(God) and the Clay(His people)… 1 Samuel 16 is a story of a young Shepherd boy, who was anointed by Samuel to be King(David). Eliab and Abinadab passed infront of Samuel, but the Lord rejected them despite stature and all.Instead, He chose the youngest, who was at that moment, not anywhere near the vicinity, but was tending sheep… God is really mysterious!…He chooses the weak to confound the wise!
When Saul was tormented,he instructed his attendants to find someone who played well and see what one of his servants said in Verse 18, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp.He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with Him”…What a description for a young Shepherd boy.
Do you see how beautiful the Potter(God) made David?
In Chapter 17 of the same book,David faced Goliath and this was after He confessed killing both a lion and a bear,in verse 34.
God did not waste any of his experiences.God led David before the King (Saul) and eventually David took over the throne through His experiences… God moulded this young Shepherd boy who was quite insignificant, into the respected King of Israel we know today… Glory to God!
The pinching,firing/heating and glazing are meant to beautify you;Make you stronger, wiser, bolder, strengthen your faith in God and above all, declare His Lordship over your situation. Do not fret,do not give up!…Hold on and stay strong because everything will be alright!
Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:6 says, “…for God who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ”
In the midst of gross darkness, my dear brothers and sisters,we have the Light of the glory of God…We are never alone!
In Verse 7-10,Paul goes on to say, “…but we have the treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not us.We are hardpressed on every side but not crushed;perplexed but not in despair;persecuted but not abandoned;struck down but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.”
Jesus Christ, our light,is the treasure we have and this is why, through tests and trials, yes we will be hard-pressed,perplexed,persecuted but we will not be crushed, despaired, abandoned or destroyed so that the life of Jesus may be revealed in our body…Hallelujah!!
Remember,at the end of the day, it might not make any sense now,the end product is beautiful.
Would you make this prayer with me today from the bottom of your heart?…
“God,you are the Potter, I am the clay.Make me into who you designed me to be.Grant me the strength to stay the course and assure me of your presence.I am available Lord.
I end with a quote by C.H Surgeon,
” That God predestines and that man is responsible are two things few can see. They are believed to be inconsistent and contradictory… two truths can never contradict each other…they are two lines so nearly parallel that the mind that shall pursue them farthest will never discover that they converge but they do and will meet somewhere in eternity, close to the throne of God whence all truth doth spring.”
Please note:God’s predestination does not give us a ticket to mediocre living. We have a part to play.
I could go on and on and on,but allow me to stop here today(This is a story for another day…Lol!)
Have an amazing week full of confidence and assurance of His presence.
