FOR GOOD?…

We go through trials,frustrations,seasons of unbelief,heartbreak,turmoil…you name it…and then a scripture pops up… “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”(Romans 8:28)

For Good?…What good is there in losing my father at the prime of my youth two days before Christmas?…For Good?…What good is there in breaking up with my boyfriend/fiancee/fiance and yet I gave my unconditional love?…I gave my life and my whole heart?…You say for good?…What good is there in losing my well paying job and my health all at the same time?…For Good?…What good is there in losing the baby I have always desired to carry for nine months in my womb?…For Good?...What good is there in getting raped?!!…I lost it all!…My family,my career,my life! And you are there telling me that it is not just some things that work for good but all things?…Every single thing?…How?!!!

At face value that scripture actually appears very obsolete and unreasonable but then thinking about it,it actually makes alot of sense.

Think about it this way,the day you had your heart broken or you chose to let go of a relationship that was draining you…how is your relationship now?Aren’t you wiser and bolder?…Yes you lost your job and your health but look at it now…whatever you always took for granted you now appreciate…Yes,you lost your dad or mom…but hasn’t God always provided and proved to be a Father to the Fatherless?…

Let us look at the bigger picture of that particular scripture Romans 8:28,”For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified and those whom he justified he also glorified.

What is Paul implying here?From the quoted scripture before verse 28 and the after scripture quoted we see Paul highlighting the hope we have as Children of God.The hope of glory.Those who are called according to Gods’ purpose will experience all manner of sufferings but all that works for our good…Grounding our hope,deepening our reliance on the Holy Spirit and setting our goal on glorification.The good of every present suffering,disappointment,heartache,frustration,fear…is Glorification.God is glorified at the end of it all.

For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Examples in scripture…Joseph,despised by his brothers,thrown in a pit and left for dead…Wasn’t he the one who salvaged his family in the drought?…Wasn’t he made King over the land of Egypt?…Yes,it all works for the good.Daniel,thrown in the lions’ den and his accusers awaiting his demise,at the end of the day,God was glorified and the entire kingdom worshipped the God of Daniel…Yes,it all works for the good…Hannah,mocked by Peninah for her childless state,it was so bad,she couldn’t eat…she would have chosen to give up on God but instead in her sorry state she fell at His feet and cried out to Him and made a vow to God.Was she blessed with a son?…Yes, Samuel…A great man!…Absolutely,it all works for the good!…I can go on and on and on but see how weaved together scripture is!Right from the Old Testament to Pauls’ era,scripture just comes together so beautifully.

Grounding our hope,deepening our reliance on the Holy Spirit and setting our goal on glorification.The good of every present suffering,disappointment,heartache,frustration,fear…is Glorification.God is glorified at the end of it all.

Therefore it goes without say that, “All things work together for the good…” for who?…those who are called according to his purpose.As children of God,all we go through in this present time will end in glorification.Halleluyah!

I invite you who has been skeptical,you who has not surrendered your life to Christ to accept him and let Him work a work in your life.Just say this simple prayer,

“Lord Jesus,I accept you today as my Lord and Saviour,inviting you to be my guide and assure me of your glory when all is said and done.I love you Lord.” Amen

I end with a phrase from the book Trusting God Again,by Glandion Carney and William Long;

“Hope is a necessary ingredient in human life.Without the ability to hope and dream,we humans are lost.Hope is what drives us on;it urges us to try once more,to smile again,to reach out to help,to continue to believe in people.Hope gives shape to our longings and direction to our everyday existence.When we hope,we believe that,there is still a future and we will have a role to play in it.”

Have an amazing week ahead and remember that for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose,all things work together for good.
