Can we achieve ultimate happiness here?…
I highly doubt whether there will come a day when we will state absolutes for our happiness…well, not here…As much as you try so hard to get to the level of self-actualization,we actually never get there in real sense.Yes,you will get that Doctorate…Yes,you will meet those targets and get hefty bonuses…Yes you will get married and live a happy life with amazing children and in-laws…Yes,you will attain your set goals but…all these do not breed happiness…Infact, disproportion and dissatisfaction result even more…As human beings we always want more and more and more…We never get to the level where we say that we have arrived.
I remember a while back conversing with my Aunt who, observing her way of life and her entire family, she just seems to have it all together!I asked her whether she feels she has finally reached the top of the Hierarchy of Needs(Self-Actualization) and she said no!…I didn’t expect that response.I had another conversation with a friend lately who recently got a promotion,I asked how he felt he told me… “There is still the CEO position to eye.” Another friend was handed over a company car…Who doesn’t want a car?…He still said, “He desires his own”…As much as it seems like we have got it all together,we still want more…We can never achieve complete happiness, let us not cheat ourselves and look for it because,we will never…never get to that point of complete happiness.
I stumbled upon a very interesting quote by Albert Camus,he says, “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”
Have you ever noticed that whenever you set your mind on waiting for that call from a loved one or waiting for that food to cook for instance…it takes a bit longer?…Personally,I have observed that.On the other hand if you go about your business without setting your mind fully on the mentioned for instance, things happen abit faster…To date I have never figured out why that happens but looking at Alberts’ quote, as long as you spend days on end looking for happiness and what life means to you then, you will never be happy and you will actually never live, what you will be doing is slowly killing yourself.
I love going through Desiring God articles and John Piper in one of the many articles states 3 good reasons why we are not happy.I found them quite profound and worth stating here…
- Even the best things here are not good enough
- Our hearts are not big enough for the good we do have
- Every good gift comes to an end-for now
Worth thinking about right?
Allow me to back this by the words of Christ Himself… “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.(Matthew 6:25-34).
“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”
In search of happiness and the meaning of life, worry results.Christ is admonishing us not to worry because it does not add even a single hour to your life.Infact it only subtracts. What needs to happen then is rely/trust in God alone. We can never please everyone, infact it will not happen anytime soon,so do not try to.
Our heavenly Father knows our hearts desires and our needs even before we ask, present them before Him.Is there a condition though?…Yes…
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
That is the condition.
I love how Christ crowns this section…He says,
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
This scripture always ministers to me in my moments of great doubt and fears. It looks impractical when I look around me,but when I see how far God has brought me then this scripture really pops out and comes alive and I draw so much strength to keep me going.
All you and I need is FAITH…FAITH and more FAITH.I realized recently that the word Faith is an acronym…
Forsake All and seek first His Kingdom…Forsake All and let go…Forsake All and Trust Him to grant you the Ultimate Happiness and the True Meaning Of Life.
He has got your back.
God is willing and able to grant you the grace to develop the child-like kind of faith.Ask Him to Give you Faith and…
Just Trust Him.
“I may be weak, Your Spirit’s strong in me. My flesh may fail, but my God, You never will…There’s no treasure on earth that compares to who You are”
Have an amazing week ahead.
