The Staircase

Every time I climb those stairs and keep looking at how many are left, I become more exhausted. This became evidently clear this morning while I was taking out the trash. Whenever I decide not to look at how many staircases are left till I get to the door of our house, I climb faster and experience less exhaustion! Got me thinking…

Could it be that sometimes we approach life in such a way? We set our goals and objectives and keep looking at how far we have come in light of what we have set…It is absolutely not wrong to do that, but if we base our lives on that, then we progress slower and we get discouraged and exhausted, why? Because we fix our hearts and minds on the wrong thing. If, while climbing those stairs, I decide to take it a step at a time, knowing full well that eventually, I will get to the door of the house, believe you me, I become more relaxed and enjoy every step. In any case, every step elevates me right?

December, the last month of the year, is finally here, I know, 2020 has been quite a year for most of us, but you and I have seen the last month of it! That is a reason to be thankful! Just like climbing stairs, we began at January, the lowest level of the 2020 staircase and now we have just stepped onto the highest level. We might not be where we wanted to be when the year began, but, we are alive! This is enough reason to keep going, to keep climbing every single day and to keep focusing on the right thing.

The thing about me is whenever I begin to doubt and wonder, I look back and remember how far God has brought me and it does uplift my spirit a great deal!Like my experience with the staircase to the house, please do not look at how much longer you have to get to where you want to be, but rather look at how far you have come because then, you will live a lifestyle of gratitude and joy as opposed to the former, which catalyses complaining, murmuring and discouragement as well.

Take the step, remember where you came from as you go!

The beauty about the season we are in, is the fact that, it has not taken God by surprise at all. He knew that come a certain day in the year 2020, COVID-19 would strike! There is always a lesson in crisis.

So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures. (James 1:17-18 MSG)

We have come too far to be thrown off-course, you are almost there, just keep climbing and focus on God who has brought you this far, not on the number of staircases left. There is always a reason to live a thankful life and Hillsong worship helps us do that in the video linked below. Enjoy!

Have a blessed week ahead!

‘Tis the season to be jolly!’
