Relying on Horses and Chariots?

Christmas comes with mixed feelings for everybody across the globe. What stands out about the Festive season for me, is the fact that I get to be reminded how God gave His one and only son for my sake and yours as well. It is a great reminder that Jesus is the reason for the season! What else stands out for me is family; after a long, unpredictable year, we get a chance to just sit back and unwind…Priceless!

While sharing and fellowshiping with each other as a family after a meal, something struck me…the irony of life. My father-in-law just celebrated his birthday and my goodness! It might sound/look cliche to say this, hearing his children narrate where they came from and finally him just crowning it all moved me to silent tears.

There is someone out there taking all he has for granted, someone somewhere has absolutely no value for family, absolutely no regard for God and absolutely no regard for life and the seasons life bring. If it were not for his valuing and treating friendship and family as a treasure chest, he would have been assassinated by someone somewhere who was just not happy with his progress whatsoever! His children going to high school was a miracle in itself and he did not depend on any mortal man but God himself. They waited for him to ask for help or run a fundraiser to educate the children but to their surprise, God provided!

“Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen,
but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord.
Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster; he does not take back his words. He will rise up against that wicked nation, against those who help evildoers. But the Egyptians are mere mortals and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out his hand, those who help will stumble, those who are helped will fall; all will perish together.Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses,
who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel, or seek help from the Lord. Yet he too is wise and can bring disaster; he does not take back his words. He will rise up against that wicked nation, against those who help evildoers. But the Egyptians are mere mortals and not God; their horses are flesh and not spirit. When the Lord stretches out his hand,
those who help will stumble, those who are helped will fall; all will perish together.” (Isaiah 31:1-3)

This is echoed in Psalms 20:7, “Some trust in horses, some trust in chariots, but we trust in the name of the Lord.”

As soon as you rely on man, your success is short lived because man waivers and falters and can easily turn against you and you sell yourself short by placing your destiny on a mere mortal. Isaiah 31:3b has put it so well.It says, when the Lord stretches out His hand, those who help will stumble and those who are helped will fall, all perish together. It is a chain reaction! My father-in-law chose to rely on God alone and this sparked hatred among his close family and friends. Classic example of how desperately wicked the heart of man is. I love what he said…

“We do not lose anything when we trust God, people will hate, let them hate, as long as you do not owe them a thing.”

Father-in-law

The irony of life is, whenever you become a success in life, most people feel threatened and walk away, some just don’t relate with you anymore! This also applies to when you have nothing attached to your name…I find it very ironical😅

Isn’t it just so beautiful to learn from those who have gone ahead of you? I came across a quote that said, “In life there are no hopeless situations, just hopeless people.”

If God brought you and I this far, is it not enough to boost our hope in the fact that he can take us further; because He can and He will!

Keep your hope alive even as we await to welcome the new year in a few days!

2021 ushers in a new season and it goes without say, your season will come too! Take a listen to this beautiful song below, I just cannot get enough of it; Seasons by Hillsong.
