Admonition

An Inch Taller?

Happy new year friends! With a new year, comes new opportunities, a new chapter, a new lease of life! Super excited about 2021, I hope you are too!

There was once a policeman going about his business and as he was on the job, he saw a man who was at the verge of committing suicide on top of a building. He approached this man and asked why, the man poured out all his frustrations about life on this policeman and at the end, they both jumped off and died.

“Has anyone by fussing in front of a mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?” Matthew 6:27a. Fussing actually destroys and ruins live. Look at it this way, as soon as we begin to worry stress hormones called Cortisol. It is good only in moments of emergency but if every single day we worry and stress about life, the body is harmed and according to healthline, a number of negative effects result, including but not limited to headaches, depression, insomnia, heartburn, weakened immune system, risk of heart attack, high blood sugar and the list goes on!

It is interesting to note that what brings about stress are not the big things but the basics of life; food, clothes and shelter and Christ in Matthew 6 highlights this in verse 25, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” Even before you ask for all these things, your heavenly father knows them! Isn’t it amazing! Christ has gone all out and touched base not only with our spiritual needs but physical as well, meaning it is as important for survival, but here is the catch…

“If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don’t fuss..People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works..”

What differentiates us from the world is our complete and total dependence on God. Is it possible to live a worry free life? Oh yes it is, because Christ said so! Go about your business, set those goals, get moving but fix your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith who has promised to provide our basic needs on a daily basis so, worry should be thrown out the window and let us wear nothing but Trust in Him because this is what differentiates us from the world.

Have you ever encountered someone with so much joy amidst chaos? I have and this is the secret, letting go of worry and holding onto God in day to day living. Let this be our aim this year, to live a life of complete trust in God.

“You can’t add a single day by worrying, you’ll worry your life away…even the sparrow knows He holds tomorrow”
