Love Redefined

Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

Lao Tzu

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:36-40)

The greatest commandment is rooted in love and not just love but love for God with all that we have; our hearts, souls, minds and strength, sparing absolutely nothing, after which the second is still rooted in love but directed to our neighbours as ourselves.

Great reminder there. Our lives revolve around love, but we must always remember that the greatest commandment is to love God with everything we have, from which we draw from and share with our neighbours and ourselves. Can you love your neighbour as much as you love yourself? Think about it.

We cannot put love in a box. It cannot be contained. Love is deep and intense. Well, true love should exemplify depth and intensity without which, please run for dear life🤣

Through Christ dying on the cross, we gain strength when faced with trials and persecutions in our day to day lives because he loved us deeply and we are assured of his constant, unconditional love in every season life brings.

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.  Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3)

He lavished; generously and extravagantly He showered us with love. The world is eagerly waiting to hear about it. We have a task and the task is to share this Love with the world.

Before I sign out on today’s write-up let me paint a picture that is quite familiar to all of us to bring the point home.

Mommy met daddy, they fell in love with each other and the result is you and I. Love was involved in our existence in the first place, excluding rape victims. Now the latter is the complete opposite, if we do not have love stored in our hearts, we thirst after selfish gain not considering the other individual and pain results.

I am afraid to say that in our day and age love is being abused thoroughly but Christ has taken the word and redefined it altogether. As our perfect example we can emulate Him and change the world forever.

We might not be able to see or understand this God-kind of love but every day presents an opportunity to understand it better. How?

That smile you give, that meal you share, that laughter and joy you exude, that flat tire you help change. All these demonstrate and help us understand the God-kind of love; Deep, intense, wide, long. Knows no age, tribe, race, religion or background.

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled  to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)
