The Precious Stone Store

Worthlessness…self-doubt…confusion…low self-esteem…low self-image are some of the characteristic traits that arise when we choose to listen to the wrong source…People have battled depression, suicidal thoughts and attempts, bulimia, anorexia and the like…Voices…voices…voices can ruin or build your life…

A young boy once asked the father what the value of his life was.The father did not respond but instead he instructed the boy to take a stone handed over to him and head to the market and whenever he was asked the price he was to show the number two using his fingers without saying a word.A lady offered to buy it at $2,he went back and reported. His father then instructed him to do the same and head to a museum. The buyer offered $200.Finally,the father instructed him to go to a precious stone store and was offered $200,000 for the same stone! The father then told the boy,the value of life depends on how he places himself, carries himself around and who he surrounds himself with.He can choose to place himself in the market or in the precious stone store. Background, colour, tribe does not define value.

I had to share this story, which I got from one of those you tube motivational channels. It actually brings the point home. Many a times,we look at ourselves, the situations we are surrounded by,the people we surround ourselves with and we either value or devalue ourselves automatically.Negative/degrading talk dents our self-image and digs a hole into our self-esteem…programs and movies paint a picture of the ‘ideal’ image and at the end of the day we tend to pressurize ourselves into things we actually cannot achieve 100% like trying to ‘Keep up with the Kardashians’ to a point of extreme frustration(I love that reality show by the way!).

Can we avoid all this?Of course not but we can choose to avoid it.What kind of voices are you listening to?Who are you looking up to?…What do you think of yourself day in and day out?Do you know your worth?…DO YOU KNOW WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT YOU?…I will tell you for free friends, this world is not easy on anybody. It is too hard to try to fit into!…You will break.I like what a certain writer wrote in one of his articles. He said,

“Don’t change a good heart to fit into a hard world.”

I would then add…Let your good heart melt this hard world especially by what you know God says about you.

Imagine this,He,the Savior, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, personally knit you together in your mothers’ womb?…It goes without say that you are fearfully and wonderfully made!Everything God made was good!…He has a plan for your life,no one has the right to say otherwise.Let me tell you,as long as you are in Christ, you are a new creation! The old is gone, completely gone…as far as the east is from the West!…and guess what, the new is already here!…Your past is passed…seriously….gone!…Vamoosed!…You don’t believe me?…well,he says that you should not live in condemnation…Why dwell there? When fear and doubt and anxiety and distress come knocking at your door, how about realizing the fact that God has not given you the spirit of fear but power love and a sound mind?…Isn’t this so beautiful?…Why are you downcast?…Put your hope in God!

Like that little boy,you either choose to place yourself in the market where the noises and the voices around you place a $2 value on you or you place yourself in the precious stone store, which is the Word of God,that reveals that you are worth much more than $2…way beyond $200,000!…How I love the Word!It is LIFE!

The festive season is here, this season has broken and killed many lives, especially those who choose to indulge wrecklessly and it has also transformed and built many lives.Choose to be transformed by the season of Christmas, only then will you truly celebrate the birth of a Savior, because it is through this virgin birth, that you and I were transferred from that ‘market’ to the ‘precious stone store!’

I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough
Every single lie that tells me I will never measure up
Am I more than just the sum of every high and every low?
Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know…Lauren Daigle,You Say
